lyrics

Verse 1:
Through eyes like mine a little beauty goes a long way
Streetlight bright technicoloring the dark grey
Never would’ve thought I could’ve ever find that
Never seen a color that could cover this black
Then she walked in like a splash of red ink
On a black white page, didn’t know what to think
Except I reached the end and I had to know more
But instead I reached until she walked out the door.

Verse 2:
It seemed so simple in monochrome pages
If he said the wrong thing the artist could erase it
But my words are written in indelible ink
So I save her the trouble and I drown them with drinks
Should be chasing crooks and clues but I'm here
Getting to the bottom of this bottle of beer
And it ain’t no mystery how this night’s gonna end
Though I won't remember getting home again

Chorus:
Sometimes I feel like a sundial at midnight
Too little, too late I hesitated you’re gone
If the light had been right I could passed for a hero
But the sun’s gone down, the plot’s moved on
And I can still wish for a second act twist
But if I haven’t changed yet, then there’s no hope in hoping
It’s time for this hero's journey's conclusion
It’s high time this chain of regrets was broken

Verse 3
What if I traded my menial wages
For dockside shootouts and classic car chases
A real gunslinger with no feelings of fear
Instead of loser drowning feelings in beer
Is that the kinda man that you’ve been dreaming of
Is that the kinda man that you think you love
Well that ain’t the man that I grew up to be
But watch for the changes coming up in act three

Final Chorus:
Have you ever felt like a sundial at midnight
Too little too late you hesitated they’re gone
If the light had been right you might’ve passed for a hero
But the sun has gone down the plot has moved on
And you can still wish for a second act twist
But if you haven’t changed then there’s no hope in hoping
It’s time for a character arc resolution
It’s high time this chain of regrets was broken
